Closer to Our Own Humanity

Karenjeet Dhaliwal (she/her) is a community leader in Pierce County and a counselor at The Evergreen State College. She helps black and brown families who have been impacted by the prison system to understand how to transition back into community. Karenjeet regularly collaborates with Journeymen / OneVillage and Vashon SURJ.

Juniper Rogneby (she/her) is a Vashon activist and organizer focused on racial equity and food justice, and an independent HR/Operations consultant/ facilitator who is newly elected to the VI School Board. Juniper is committed to better understanding her own whiteness, both what it has allowed her and what it has cost her.

Karenjeet and Juniper look forward to gathering with the VIUU congregation towards creating a “courageous and gracious space” where we can boldly discuss race and other intersecting systems of oppression.

The facilitators request that in advance of January 14, you watch the following seldom-seen NBC news interview with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xsbt3a7K-8

The plate collection on 1/14 will benefit VYFS
